Avid cruisers know that small ships such as Seabourn Sojourn, carrying a maximum of 450 passengers, can easily navigate the Norwegian fjords and dock or drop anchor in small ports of call where the big ships can’t.

Small ships offer several other advantages, such as fewer lines for activities ranging from dining to disembarking, and greater space ratio, meaning fewer guests per square foot.

Small ships generally feel more intimate and less crowded than large ships. While luxury cruise fares on small ships are almost always quite a bit more than fares for similar cruises on large ships, luxury cruises are more inclusive, which should be factored in to the total amount paid.

For example, alcohol is served free of charge as are specialty coffees and soft drinks on luxury vessels. Gratuities, which are added to passengers’ final bills on large ships, are included on luxury cruises. (Crystal is an exception, but it skirts the issue with on-board credits.)

Luxury cruise fares are also at – or near – historic lows, making luxury cruises an even greater value than there were just a short while ago.

More typically, luxury cruises can be found for around $300 per day per person, not bad when you consider the fare includes wining and dining in gourmet restaurants – or on your balcony as you sail by some of the world’s most attractive sites.

Fort Lauderdale - August 4, 2009 - Regent Seven Seas Cruises (RSSC) today announced that two star performers have been engaged to perform exclusive “Dinner and a Show” entertainment for Regent guests during upcoming long winter cruises. Florence Henderson, beloved star of TV and Broadway, will be aboard the first leg of Seven Seas Mariner’s Circle South America cruise in January, while Clint Holmes, award-winning singer and entertainer and Las Vegas icon, will be aboard the Hong Kong to Cape Town segment of Seven Seas Voyager’s World Cruise in March.

The unique “Dinner and a Show” concept was introduced aboard RSSC ships in early 2009 to instant acclaim, featuring acts such as the Tony-winning production of “Forbidden Broadway”, The Unexpected Boys, and Australian star Rhonda Burchmore. The evening begins with cocktails, followed by a specially-created music-themed menu in the exclusive Signatures restaurant, culminating in the show itself in the intimate Horizon Lounge. Norwegian Epic Freestyle Dining and Family Fun

Miami - Apr 3, 2009 --- Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) today revealed another industry first to debut on its next generation of Freestyle Cruising ship, Norwegian Epic, which will include an expansive Aqua Park with the only tube slide and largest bowl slide at sea -- The Epic Plunge. The line also unveiled seven decks of Freestyle Family Fun with highlights including a 33-foot high, 64-foot wide extreme rock climbing wall and the first ever rappelling wall at sea; the most bowling lanes at sea with six in two venues; a mixed-use sports deck with the ability for guests to engage in eight different athletic activities; as well as three separate kids' and teen activity areas and the first squash court at sea. In addition, Norwegian revealed the next generation of Freestyle Dining with 14 restaurant choices - the most at sea - and 18 bars and lounges.

Norwegian's First Aqua Park

Norwegian Epic, set for delivery in late May 2010, takes Freestyle Family Fun to the extreme with an expansive Aqua Park that includes three water slides of varying thrill factors, including one specifically designed for children that zips straight through the rock climbing wall; a more adventurous slide twisting and turning down three stories; and The Epic
Plunge, the only tube slide at sea that puts the blast of inner-tubing into the core of a bowl slide with a thrilling drop through a 200-foot long tube. Riders are then launched into the vortex of The Epic Plunge where centrifugal forces keep them high on the wall for several turns, ending in an exciting transition into a splashdown lane. The Aqua Park also includes two main pools with arching water effects which illuminate at night; five whirlpools; a wading pool and a kid's pool in the children's Splash and Play Zone which features whimsical sculptures, water sprays and effects, along with a kiddy slide.

Scaling New Heights in Freestyle Fun

In an industry first, Norwegian Epic will scale new heights with the first ever repelling wall at sea and a 33-foot high extreme rock climbing wall, accessible on two levels with varying degrees of difficulty, rated according to official U.S. climbing grades. Expanding its innovative concept of bowling at sea, Norwegian Epic will offer the most bowling lanes with a total of six located in two venues: Bliss Ultra Lounge and O'Sheehan's Neighborhood Bar & Grill. The multi-use sports deck will include a full size basketball court, volleyball, soccer, dodge ball, batting cage, bungee trampoline, rope adventure course and a 24-foot tall enclosed climbing cage called the spider web. Norwegian Epic will also feature the first squash court at sea, located in the fitness center.

Our Largest Kid's Crew Facility and Exclusive Teen Lounge
Recess is Norwegian Epic's Kid's Crew facility that is centrally located on Deck 14 adjacent and easily accessible to the family-friendly staterooms. Two separate areas are specifically designed for kids ages two through nine and tweens, ages 10 through 12. The Kid's area includes a space-themed play area, air hockey table, an interactive light up dance floor; Wii gaming areas; an arts and crafts area; along with a state-of-the-art surround sound cinema. The Tween Zone has a futuristic feel that includes multiple Wii and PlayStation® areas; along with a private karaoke performance stage which doubles as a cinema.

Entourage is Norwegian Epic's high energy, exclusive teen zone for ages 13 through 17, located at the top of the ship on Deck 16. This funky space includes air hockey; pinball; foosball; a video jukebox; and nine large flat screen televisions, five of which are located around a central video game console featuring PlayStation® 3. In the evening, Entourage transitions into a hip nightclub with a space for dancing or just hanging out on comfy couches. Directly below is the video arcade which features number of the most challenging and interactive video games.

The Most Dining Choices at Sea
Norwegian Epic's wide range of dining choices will wow even the most discerning cruiser with 14 Freestyle Dining restaurants and 18 bars and lounges. Each restaurant features unique and sensational culinary delights from around the world.

Norwegian Epic's dining establishments will include:

Taste: Located in the ship's atrium on Deck 5, Taste's décor blends off-white, free-form plastered walls with European retro-chic mixed with brick details and floor to ceiling velvet curtains. Taste will serve a selection of traditional and contemporary cuisine.

The Manhattan Room: Reminiscent of an elegant art deco supper club, The Manhattan Room features a dance floor as its focal point and will offer live music and dancing in the evening. The two-story high restaurant on Deck 6 features floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows looking aft. The cuisine reflects the elegant and romantic nature of the room.

Café Jardin & The Great Outdoors: Café Jardin's décor is modeled after a traditional English country garden conservatory. This is Norwegian's signature action station casual restaurant where chefs cook fresh, prepared-to-order food as guests watch, featuring seafood, pizza, fruit, soups, pasta, ethnic specialties, burgers and desserts; offering extensive and varied selections. The Café includes a Kid's Café with child-friendly seats and tables. At the Great Outdoors, guests can enjoy fresh air and a view of the Aqua Park with their meal.

Cagney's Steakhouse & Churrascaria: Norwegian's traditional American steakhouse takes on a new twist with the addition of Argentinean churrasco. In addition to mouth-watering steaks, guests will be able to sample a variety of skewered meats presented by tableside passadors. Another new addition is a large, centrally located salad bar.

La Cucina: This Tuscan-style eatery will serve regional Italian specialties including pizza, pasta and steak, chicken and fish dishes. The traditional Italian décor reflects two distinct areas: a Tuscan farm home and an Italian courtyard, where a large olive tree with hanging lanterns is the centerpiece, open to Café Jardin above.

Le Bistro: Norwegian's upscale bistro will serve classic French cuisine with an American flair. This elegant dining establishment surrounds guests with contemporary and traditional paintings and sculptures, making guests feel as if they were dining in an art museum.

Shanghai's: This new addition to Norwegian's specialty dining options will serve a delicious mix of Chinese dishes and noodle bar specialties. The décor reflects Old Shanghai in the 1930s and is reminiscent of the China Club in Hong Kong. There will be an open kitchen preparing traditional Chinese cuisine, noodles, wok fried dishes and dim sum.

Wasabi: This expansive sushi and sake bar will serve the freshest sushi, sashimi and Japanese Yakitori dishes. Featuring modern décor and clean lines, Wasabi is located outside the Teppanyaki restaurant.

Teppanyaki: As the largest Teppanyaki restaurant at sea with 115 seats, this expanded restaurant will feature up to 24 knife-wielding chefs cooking exhibition-style Japanese cuisine on flat top grills. Guests will be amazed by the masterful chefs who demonstrate their skills slicing and dicing while creating an appetizing meal.

O'Sheehan's Neighborhood Bar & Grill: This classic neighborhood sports bar and restaurant will serve American favorites and comfort food and is open 24 hours. The atrium's two-story high screen will be visible from inside the restaurant and additional flat screen televisions will show sporting events, while guests enjoy their own activities, including three lanes of bowling, dart boards, pool tables, foosball and arcade games.

The Epic Club and Courtyard Grill: Located high atop the ship in The Villas complex, this modern and elegant restaurant is reserved exclusively for Norwegian Epic's suite and villa guests. The décor reflects a private club ambiance with contemporary and modern furnishings, and a large wine display, dotted with glass sculptures and pearl drapes. The Courtyard Grill is the more casual, outdoor area of the restaurant serving Villas guests for breakfast and lunch.

To Be Announced: In addition to the above, there is also one more Norwegian Epic restaurant which will be announced at the next reveal in May.

Also, 24-hour room service will be available for all guests on board Norwegian Epic.

Throughout the ship, there will also be a total of 18 bars and lounges, which include: Atrium Bar; O'Sheehan's; Cascades, the casino bar; Bliss Ultra Lounge; Cagney's Bar; the Ice Bar; Sake Bar; Malting's Whiskey Bar; Shaker's Martini Bar; Humidor Cigar Lounge; The Living Room, exclusively for The Studios' guests; Waves Bar; Spice H20; the Epic Club; and Posh Beach Club. The final three bars will be announced in May.

The final chapter reveal of Norwegian Epic will take place in New York City on May 20 and will focus on the ship's innovative entertainment. The ship will also go on sale to the general public on that date. The first Eastern Caribbean sailing is scheduled for July 17, 2010 and its alternating Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries will be available for booking through April 2011.

Norwegian Epic, NCL's largest Freestyle Cruising ship to date, set for delivery in May 2010, will feature the biggest ship-within-a-ship suite complex at sea, comprising 60 suites and villas on two private decks at the top of the ship. Guests staying in one of these suites will have exclusive access to the Courtyard Villa complex featuring a pool, two whirlpools, gym, saunas, sundeck, indoor/outdoor dining, bar/nightclub and concierge lounge. Always an innovator, Norwegian pioneered the ship-within-a-ship concept on its Jewel class ships and is now taking that vision to epic proportions on the 4,200-passenger Norwegian Epic.

For the budget-conscious traveler, Norwegian also unveiled a new category of inside staterooms - The Studios. A first in design for the cruise industry, these ultra-modern staterooms maximize space and feature a large, round window that looks out into the corridor, along with customizable color changing light effects that mirror different stages of the day or the guest's mood, including a love setting for those romantic nights at sea. More details on Norwegian Epic's accommodations are as follows:

Villas and Suites:

A total of 60 Courtyard Villas, Penthouse Suites and Deluxe Owner's Suites on two private decks high atop the ship on Decks 16 and 17. All have exclusive access to a private pool, two whirlpools, saunas, sun deck, fitness facility, private indoor/outdoor dining, bar and concierge lounge.

There are 46 of NCL's signature Courtyard Villas featuring two bedrooms and two bathrooms of ultimate luxury.

Six Courtyard Penthouses include a bedroom with separate living and dining area.

Eight Deluxe Owner's Suites feature all-around floor to ceiling windows, bedroom and separate living and dining area. There are also seven Penthouse Suites located in other areas of the ship.

The Studios and Living Room:

128 ultra modern studios located on two decks, 11 and 12. Each sleeps two, has a den-like feel with a large, round window looking onto the corridor with customizable color changing light effects that mirror different stages of the day. Inside the Studios, a control panel allows guests to select their own light effect depending on their mood, including a love setting for romantic nights at sea.
The Living Room is a shared social space exclusively for the use of Studio guests. The area is a two-floor lounge which features a bar, room service, two large TV screens, and comfy seating for hanging out, reading a book or just enjoying a cocktail before dinner. A concierge is available to book dinner reservations and shore excursions.

Spa Suites and Staterooms:

Located on Deck 14, a total of 39 spa suites, deluxe balcony and balcony staterooms have private key-card entry to the enclave surrounding Norwegian Epic's ultra-luxurious thermal suite and fitness center. For an added indulgence, eight spa suites each feature an in-room whirlpool.

Family Staterooms:

225 Family Deluxe Balcony and 146 Family Balcony staterooms, with triple and quad occupancies, are located on two decks (13 and 14) within close proximity to the expanded Kids Crew. These staterooms feature Norwegian's signature New Wave design with contemporary curved architecture and open living space. The curved walls and ceilings maximize the living space with a bathroom that is completely unique with a separate shower stall, separate water closet and a modern vanity top sink.

Deluxe Balcony Staterooms:

98 Deluxe Balcony staterooms featuring NCL's signature New Wave design, with contemporary curved architecture and open living space. New Wave Balcony Staterooms:

851 Balcony staterooms feature Norwegian's New Wave design and open living space; located throughout the ship on Decks 8 to 14.

NCL Names F3 Norwegian Epic; Announces Inaugural Season Itineraries

Miami - Jan 27, 2009 --- Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) today announced that it has selected the name for its new F3 ship: Norwegian Epic. Just as the name implies, the ship will be the largest and most innovative Freestyle Cruising ship to date.

The 4,200-passenger Norwegian Epic is scheduled to sail year-round to the Caribbean from Miami, beginning in summer 2010. Following a series of inaugural events in Europe and the U.S., the ship will homeport in Miami and will sail year-round to the Caribbean offering alternating seven-day Western and Eastern Caribbean voyages through April 2011. These cruises are scheduled to go on sale to the public later this spring. NCL will open Norwegian Epic's sailings for group block bookings exclusively for travel partners in mid-March 2009.

"The F3 experience will take our already successful Freestyle Cruising to the next level, affording our guests the ultimate freedom and flexibility. Norwegian Epic, denoting a ship that is very impressive on a grand scale, is the most fitting name," said Kevin Sheehan, NCL's president and CEO. Norwegian Epic represents the next generation of Freestyle Cruising – a ship that incorporates a wide range of new features and amenities, including curved New Wave staterooms and unique nightlife options. Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. Announces End To Fuel Supplement

Miami - October 24, 2008 - Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. today announced that the company's fuel supplement will no longer apply to new Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises and Azamara Cruises bookings made on or after November 10, 2008, anywhere in the world, for sailings that depart on or after January 1, 2010.

This decision takes into consideration the recent reductions in global fuel prices. The company has also established specific guidelines that will determine whether fuel supplement refunds will be provided for sailings that begin in 2009 and later, which were booked prior to November 10, 2008, if fuel prices remain below a specific price threshold.

For 2009 sailings and 2010 sailings booked before November 10, 2008, the company will determine on a quarterly basis whether fuel supplements will be refunded. Refunds, in the form of an onboard credit, will be provided if the closing price of West Texas Intermediate fuel is $65 or less, at the closing time of the New York Mercantile Exchange, two weeks prior to the beginning of the upcoming calendar quarter. When those conditions are met, an onboard credit will be provided to all guests on sailings that begin during the upcoming calendar quarter.

The dates on which the price of West Texas Intermediate fuel will be measured, and the quarters during which refunds could apply are:

Oasis of the Seas Seventh Neighborhood Unveiling; Youth Zone

MIAMI, October 22, 2008 – The final neighborhood to be added into the deck plans of Royal Caribbean International’s Oasis of the Seas was announced last night. The Youth Zone, a haven for children and teens, joins the ranks of six other previously-announced, diverse neighborhoods that will be aboard the world’s largest and most revolutionary cruise ship due to launch in November 2009. Oasis of the Seas features a unique concept that will provide guests with the opportunity to seek out relevant experiences based on their personal style, preference or mood in seven neighborhoods, including Central Park, Boardwalk with the AquaTheater, the Royal Promenade, the Pool and Sports Zone, the Vitality at Sea Spa and Fitness Center, Entertainment Place, and the Youth Zone.

The latest neighborhood unveiling introduced a wealth of kid- and teen-friendly adventures that lie within the Youth Zone - covering a total expansive area of more than 28,700 sq. ft. (2,669 sq. meters) - including, Kids Avenue, a central boulevard connecting children with dedicated Adventure Ocean spaces and various themed play areas; the cruise line’s first nursery for infants and toddlers (six months or older); and state-of-the-art teen areas.

The Adventure Ocean youth program aboard Oasis of the Seas will feature the cruise line’s award-winning curriculum currently offered to young guests fleetwide, but with an exciting new and enhanced approach, including impressive spaces created and equipped specifically for designated activities allowing for a more robust program. All Royal Caribbean Adventure Ocean and teen programs are led by exceptional, energetic and college-educated counselors, whose goal is to create memorable experiences for the cruise line’s younger guests.

Undoubtedly one of the most anticipated advancements is the addition of the Royal Babies and Tots nursery, a first for Royal Caribbean. This colorful space will serve as a fully-staffed nursery where children can be left in the care of Royal Caribbean’s trained professionals, as well as host various playgroups created by Fisher-Price and Crayola for babies and tots.

Open daily, the nursery will offer parents childcare drop-off options in the daytime and evening, carefully maintaining an optimum staff to child ratio. Free-time play also will be offered daily, creating an interactive environment where parents and children can bond while playing with a variety of Fisher Price developmental toys in specially-designed programs offered exclusively for guests sailing with Royal Caribbean. The Crayola Beginnings line of toddler art tools will be featured in unique developmentally-appropriate art activities designed for parents and children to enjoy precious creative moments together.

Within the Youth Zone, Kids Avenue will serve as the main promenade for young cruisers to access the various Adventure Ocean areas. Crayola Arts and crafts activities, scavenger hunts, talent shows and other scheduled and guided age-specific activities will be offered to three Adventure Ocean program age groups, each with its own space: Aquanauts, ages 3 to 5; Explorers, ages 6 to 8; and Voyagers, ages 9 to 11.

In addition, Oasis of the Seas will introduce exciting new common play areas, including the Kid’s Arcade for video games; the Workshop, where families can learn scrapbooking skills or create personalized jewelry; Imagination Studio where children can explore the world of color and imagination through Adventure Art by Crayola; a fully-equipped lab for Adventure Science Lab, where Einsteins-in-the-making can expand their knowledge; Play, a circular area where children can frollick and participate in a variety of sports and games; and Adventure Ocean Theater, the first-ever children’s theater at sea - complete with a stage and curtains, audience seating and state-of-the-art production equipment - where children of all ages can learn about theatrical productions, take part in talent shows, or sign up for hip hop dance classes.

The teen-only spaces will be located one deck above the Adventure Ocean areas and adjacent to the ship’s Sports Deck, where kids can test their skills on one of the ship’s two FlowRider surf simulators; the miniature golf-course, Oasis Dunes; or the Sports Court for volleyball and basketball games. The physical separation of the teen-only spaces from younger Adventure Ocean guests will be one of the many striking enhancements implemented as a recommendation of Royal Caribbean’s Teen Advisory Board — a group of teens recruited last year to identify what youths between the ages of 12- and 17-years would want to see aboard future Royal Caribbean ships.

Longtime favorite Royal Caribbean teen-only spaces, Fuel disco and The Living Room, will return aboard Oasis of the Seas, only larger and more state-of-the-art. The Living Room will be the ultimate go-to hangout for teens to kick back and socialize at the “mock-tail” bar, which serves non-alcoholic sodas and juice concoctions; learn to spin and mix music in Scratch DJ 101 classes, a part of Royal Caribbean’s Scratch DJ Academy; or surf the Internet and keep in touch with friends via the bank of computer stations dedicated to the space. Teens also will be able to kick it up a notch at Fuel, a disco which will feature a hip environment, where they can hang out with friends, and a dance floor, where they can show off their moves. A spacious outdoor deck adjacent to these venues will give teens more opportunities to make new friends while on their cruise vacation.

In addition to the areas within the Youth Zone and teen-only spots aboard Oasis of the Seas, special attractions for children of all ages also will be located throughout the ship’ other neighborhoods. Along the Boardwalk, kids and teens will be able to shop at retail stores tailored to their interests, and infants and toddlers can ride the Carousel with their parents or enjoy the climbing and play space modeled after a 50’s-style gas station next to the popular Johnny Rockets restaurant. Just a little update about the ho-hum lives of the CruiseCheap and iCruise Internet Team...

Because we are loyal clients of Google and their marketing products, we were invited to Google Headquarters all the way in San Jose, CA.

Last Tuesday, September 08, we boarded our early flight to San Jose.

We arrived excited to view the Google campus, and have a Google-filled day learning about all the existing and new advertising tools available to us through Google.

We made sure to represent iCruise with our spiffy new shirts. Although I'm not sure if we gave the impression of either eager tourists, or professionalism, or both... either way, people definitely noticed us. I suppose it couldn't be helped, especially since we made it a point to sit in the very front row of the conference.

We took a break half-way through the day for lunch, and walked outside for a bit before heading back to the conference.

Our brains were jumpstarted with tons of ideas by the end of the conference, and we couldn't wait to get back home to begin working on some awesome projects for the websites. We have so many things planned to help maximize customer satisfaction with our sites, and so many ideas on how to get the word out.

We hope - with the use of some innovative Google tools; our efforts, ideas, and hard work; and the help and support of our loyal customers - that iCruise will one day be a household name.

MIAMI, September 16, 2008 – The curtain has been raised on another neighborhood aboard Oasis of the Seas, Royal Caribbean International’s newest and highly anticipated ship set to launch in November 2009. Entertainment Place, a complex of diverse entertainment venues, is one of seven neighborhoods on the world’s largest and most revolutionary cruise ship – a unique concept providing vacationers with the opportunity to seek out relevant experiences based on their personal style, preference or mood. Previously announced neighborhoods include, Central Park, Boardwalk, the Royal Promenade, the Pool and Sports Zone, and the Vitality at Sea Spa and Fitness Center.

A contemporary night club district, Entertainment Place will introduce new signature after-dark spaces in more intimate venues that offer a variety of entertainment experiences. The new collection of venues will include Blaze, the hottest nightclub at sea; Jazz on 4, an intimate lounge filled with live jazz and blues; and Comedy Live, featuring side-splitting comedy. Dance enthusiasts also will be able to enjoy an elegant evening in Dazzles, a dance lounge featuring musically themed evenings, dance lessons and competitions.

Whether guests are looking for a mellow low-key evening or an exhilarating high-energy ‘night on the town,’ Entertainment Place will have an experience to suit any mood. Those in need of a good belly laugh will be drawn to Comedy Live, the comedy club where headline acts will interact with the audience and provide engaging and customized performances each evening. The festive space with décor inspired by a New York subway station, features an underground theme with bright casual furnishings, glazed tiling and a ceiling map of the subway system.

Inspired by prohibition-era Chicago, Jazz on 4, with its warm tones of rich walnut paneling, plush sofas and chairs and velvety drapes accented with hand-stitched Swarovski crystals, will provide an intimate experience as guests enjoy soulful rhythms. Blaze, with its dramatic entrance of doors ‘burning’ with hot flames and a ‘charred’ threshold, delivers the quintessential nightclub experience where guests can dance the night away to pulsating music in a hip and trendy atmosphere.

Cruise West's Spirit of Endeavor to Alaska Experience

Alena Einfeldt of WMPH Vacation & AlaskaCruises.com cruised onboard Cruise West's Spirit of Endeavor. She set sail on August 20th and returned on August 29, 2008. This was her first Small Ship Cruise. Read about her adventure on her blog below:

My Cruise West Alaska experience was nothing like what I had imagined...Honestly I expected a whole bunch of older people and several days at sea? Don't know why, but that's what I thought... Here's what really happened!

Day 1- Flight to Ketchikan, Alaska

The flight was not that bad coming in from Florida-- with the time zone change my body was ahead of the game and I did not feel worn out! You’ll still want to book a pre hotel in case something goes wrong, or you want to see the departure city, or maybe your client will experience jet lag. It's better to be safe than sorry… but the biggest thing is to see the departure city. We started in Ketchikan; actually the city is very cool! There were many activities within walking distance right in the area. The ships dock across the street from down town and we walked everywhere without any problem.

We saw salmon swimming and jumping upstream from a bridge that ran right thru town. The weather was great! Also, if a person has to fly into Ketchikan, the airport is on a little island and you have to take a ferry to the main land-- being that we were with Cruise West they picked us up and drove the shuttle on the boat ferry. Many people walked from the airport to the ferry with their luggage... loved Ketchikan.

Our first encounter with the Cruise West ship crew- They stand outside and welcome you on the ship... everyone from the cook to the captain. The captain had dinner with us the first night and we had a wonderful time asking him a million questions. He asked us each what we wanted to see. Little did I know, he actually memorized everything we told him and would make sure we saw every one of our requests. (I love Captain Mike!- 2 thumbs up all the way

Day 2 - Misty Fjord

The 2nd day was sailing "Misty Fjord" in the morning. We sailed into a little bay called "God's Pocket" and it was stunning! It was like we were in a magazine page... There were waterfalls, the most amazing of green trees in every variety, and whales!!! Several waterfalls pouring over rocks and cliffs... Did I mention the Whales? I did not want to leave! All I wanted was 1 more minute there... I had "No idea that this was only the beginning!" Every sailing has guides and leaders. They have a mic and tell you where you are and what you are seeing for the ones that want to stay inside or look out the window from the cabin's ocean view window (Yes the view was perfect from our window... we were only 1 deck down from the main deck - the view must have everything to do small ships). In this bay, the guide was telling us about this rare rainforest tree and we sailed up to the tree to touch the soft fern leaves!!! Then we sailed up to the waterfall and anyone that was on the deck got wet!! It was so much fun.

We went to Metlakatla- Steve’s favorite place. We learned about Indians and totem poles which are everywhere in Alaska but they really only mean something to you when you learn what they are all about and how to read the story that the artist is telling. Cruise West made sure we were entertained; if you were interested, it was easy to become involved.

So much going on… I did not get to tell you about the clients on the ship.. All Age Groups! Our youngest was 11yrs old. (I don't think it would be good for younger than that- but it depends on the child). The captain told us that this year has been such a variety of ages. As I mentioned before, we meet Jessica's clients. They were booked in the least expensive cabin, but gladly paid for an upgrade while on the ship!!! In all fairness, the cruise was a gift to them, and the client said she thought that was all her family could probably afford. She said that if the ship was sold out she would of "had" to stay in the little room and if she would of known in advance she would of happily upgraded but it did not cross her mind to check what kind of room her family had put her in... (moral of the story and "Note to self": If I book a gift for a client I will mark my calendar to follow up with the actual client to see if they may want to upgrade in advance.)

The first day, we overheard a passenger that was highly upset that she was on a small ship with "No Spa!" also no shopping, or theater entertainment! She keep saying she could not wait to talk to her travel agent!!! YIKES.... She said she was a Diva and this is not what she wanted. She told her husband she wanted to get off the ship. She pointed out another passenger that had went out and purchased several evening gowns for the dinners… her agent told her that even though it's a small ship, that you still dress up!!! Double Yikes!!! ABSOLUTELY NOT! In fact most people kept the same clothes on all day, including us... Jeans and a shirt or whatever you’re comfortable in.

I asked the hotel director/bartender/continental breakfast server (inside joke - all staff works just about all of the jobs!) if we could see the cabin selection. We were booked in a category AAA, had absolutely zero complaints on the room; actually it was better than some of the larger ships I have sailed on... but I will not mention names. We saw that the lowest category was a lot smaller and you can hear the waves crash on the bow of the ship.

On the second night, the captain did not have dinner with us because he wanted to spread his charm among the other guests on the ship. He later apologized and said he would not cheat on us again… and he didn't. We had dinner every night with Captain Mike not because he had to because he wanted to. Every night we talked about what we did and saw, as well as what we would do the next day. He was great. Every night after dinner the guides and leaders have a little social and tell us what to look for the next day; i.e. animals, plants, birds, glaciers
ect... and then you go to bed! That's it - and that was fine because were worn out every night. I would never in a million years think that nature, culture, and history all day- every day was so exciting.. I think it's because you are a part of everything that’s going on.

Day 3 - Petersburg

We visited Petersburg, which was a little Norwegian/Indian Village, very cool. We walked through town and visited the little shops. By the way, every port has an included shore excursion... most of them are about a hour, but this gives you a chance to get off the ship see the city a little and do something on your own or another shore excursion. A lot of passengers did several excursions at each port if time allowed. We had our first eagle sighting today - that was cool. Again, whales everywhere; for the most part you needed a pair of binoculars to see them
clearly, but many times they swam right past the side of the ship. We also had our first bear sighting too... it was so funny, because Captain Mike made announcements on the speaker if they spot animals so you can come out and see them on the bow of the ship if you’re in your room... Well we hear him say "I need every one to come out on the bow of the ship… right now Candice!" He wanted to make sure Candice saw her bear! They make getting to know each other part of the entertainment.

Day 4 Tracy Arm Fjord and Fredrick Sound

This was once again one of my absolute favorite days. I wake up, decide to open up the window to see what the view would be and a huge ice berg floated past my window! "Candice wake up!!!!!" That’s all I could say. Her reaction, "This is beautiful!" and we gazed out the window for a moment and jumped out of bed because we knew the view from the deck would be awesome!!! We were awake now! This day was a beautiful all day - it was a "sailing day". We saw eagles, bears, harbor seals, orca pods, more whales, waterfalls, and glaciers calving – you’d hear a cannon ball blast and then you would see a chunk of ice fall. As simple as it sounds, you could stand out in the cold and watch all day, waiting for the "Big One". (There were other animal sightings but I didn't know what I was looking at).

Day 5 Sitka

Sitka is a little Russian/Indian Village - we did the included tour and walked through town. Most of the included tours involved a little tour and a performance by the natives or locals. The evening show was a film about Glacier Bay hosted by National Geographic. The funniest thing was after dinner, when they announced the social hour and film presentation we all hurried up there with such enthusiasm, since that too was so much fun.

Day 6 - Glacier Bay

Just imagine the choir in the background singing Ahhhhh!!) This was our defining moment!! It was hard to sleep after the movie, we didn't know what to expect. This trip got better and better every day!!!! (Even the Captain said he prefers the north bound!) I saw Puffins!! There is a whole island Glacier Bay and there must be hundreds of birds - we sailed right up to it! I was now a bird watcher! Here is a list of all the things we saw in Glacier Bay:

Day 7 - Skagway and Haines

I really liked Skagway. I thought it was very authentic and cute. I went out early and got back on the ship before the other 5 cruise ships that were there disembarked their passengers. I guess just about 1 hour later, there were 10,000 passengers in this lovely city that was only 12 blocks long and 4 blocks wide!!! The last of the passengers that came back to the ship said there were people EVERYWHERE!!! I was so glad I was not on a big ship! In Haines I saw several eagles, swans, a black bear, and a couple of moose!

Day 8 - Juneau

The Last Day!! I hate this day. Day 8 Juneau... We had to leave. The Captain spent the whole morning with us. He took us to the bridge and showed us his job - how to read maps, his degrees and certificates, etc. We spent most of our cruise time hanging with the Captain when on the ship. We would always ask him "If you’re with us? Who's driving?" He was so cool. He even told me if I ever have any problems to call my "Friend Captain Mike!" I didn't realize how much time we spent talking about where and how we grew up, what our goals and dreams were, and how much we LOVED ALASKA… we were all bonding. I felt the bonding with the other guests, because we were making friends with people, and we made friends with the Captain. How do I know? Because I too consider him my FRIEND!

Juneau is the Capitol and has so much to do; your clients really should overnight there even if it is at the end of the trip.

Just a quick note... With Cruise West, we cut the engine every time we saw wildlife because the noise of the engine will make them run and hide. We were also told to whisper. There is no way you can see those animals so up close on a big ship, because those ships can’t cut the engine and stop 2000 people from making noise so you can watch the animals play as if you’re not even there!

Also, by the end of the trip the two clients that were not informed properly about Cruise West by were saying how wonderful it was. No thanks to their travel agents! Cruise West turned them into happy campers with the level of service and personal care they received. They both said they were not booking with their agent again. (two different agencies by the way!)

Two New Neighborhoods Announced! - The Pool and Sports Zone and the Vitality at Sea Spa and Fitness Center!

Miami, August 27, 2008 – At a Virtual Travel Show sponsored by AAA Travel last night, Royal Caribbean International unveiled two more neighborhoods for the highly anticipated Oasis of the Seas, the world’s largest and most revolutionary cruise ship when she launches in November 2009. The Pool and Sports Zone and the Vitality at Sea Spa and Fitness Center were announced at the consumer Internet event, revealing additional examples of innovation and amenities for which Royal Caribbean has been renowned throughout the cruise line’s history. This latest announcement precedes the opening of Oasis of the Seas’ general bookings on September 3, 2008.

The Pool and Sports Zone and the Vitality at Sea Spa and Fitness Center – coupled with the previously announced neighborhoods of Central Park, Boardwalk and Royal Promenade – will provide guests with the widest array of experiences from which to satisfy their personal styles, preferences or moods on a cruise. Stretching the length of the ship, the Pool and Sports Zone is an ample playground for guests of all ages, featuring private cabanas, four unique types of pools, and two FlowRider surf simulators – each larger than the single FlowRider found on the line’s Freedom-class ships. Building on the Royal Caribbean’s popular Vitality wellness program, guests will be able to soothe mind, body and soul in the Vitality at Sea Spa and Fitness Center. New to the spa services menu and fitness line-up are unique spa treatments and Kinesis group classes, a full-body, no-impact workout utilizing fluid, natural movement to engage several muscle groups simultaneously.

The Pool and Sports Zone will showcase new additions to traditional amenities, including an intimate adults-only Solarium and sports deck that will awe even the most seasoned cruiser. The first Beach Pool at sea will have a sloped entry where guests will be able to wade into the water or relax in colorful beach chairs under an umbrella as the water rolls gently beneath. Two whirlpools will flank either side of the "beach" for guests who prefer warmer waters. Located on the opposite side of the ship from the Beach Pool and separated by Central Park six decks below, is the Main Pool with two side-by-side whirlpools, ideal for rest and relaxation in the sun. Overlooking both pools will be private cabanas, complete with a dedicated attendant. Families looking for fun in the sun will easily spot Royal Caribbean’s signature H2O Zone, marked by a giant octopus with its slides and water-spraying tentacles and surrounded by fellow water-spouting ocean creatures. Separate wading and current pools, as well as a dedicated infant and toddler pool, will be set in the interactive aquatic playground and surrounded by adult and child-sized lounge chairs. The more competitive set will find haven in the Sports Pool, where afternoon water team sports will include basketball, badminton and water polo, while morning hours will be dedicated to lap swimming.

Adults looking for a retreat from the bustle of every day life will find solace in the grandest Solarium yet. Boasting a redefined layout, guests will have the sensation of floating on air from the two-deck high, glass-paneled enclave designed with seating on various “islands” surrounded by water. The open-air Solarium will offer a tranquil swimming pool, two serene whirlpools, and four cantilevered whirlpools suspended 136 feet above the ocean. The mezzanine level of the adult-dedicated area will overlook the pool deck below, offering additional chaise lounges and seating. The new Solarium Bistro will offer casual fare from the Vitality spa menu during the day, and in the evenings, transform into a romantic and intimate setting for specialty dining and dancing under the stars. It is also the perfect venue for a unique late night dance club experience – Club 20 – made popular on the line’s Freedom-class ships.

The Sports Deck in the Pool and Sports Zone also will boast new innovations, including the first zipline at sea, and two of the popular FlowRider surf simulators, flanking either side of the elevated back deck. Royal Caribbean favorites such as the nine-hole miniature golf course, Oasis Dunes, will challenge golfers of different abilities, and the Sports Court, will allow for friendly games of basketball and volleyball. Spectators will be able to cheer flowboarding guests from the Wipe Out Bar or enjoying casual dining at the Wipe Out Café.

Created as the crown jewel of the cruise line’s Vitality program, the Vitality at Sea Spa and Fitness Center will encompass various amenities that cater to complete body wellness. As a precursor to any treatment, guests are encouraged to begin the spa experience by unwinding in the calming relaxation rooms. The new Vitality at Sea Spa will include a Thermal Suite, featuring heated tile loungers, saunas and steam rooms; three couples massage suites and seven individual treatment rooms - the largest collection at sea. Kids and teen guests also will find their own dedicated Spa in which to enjoy specially catered services. The Fitness Center will offer vacationers a plentiful and varied selection of the latest cardio and resistance equipment for working out alone or for joining one of the several classes, including spinning, kickboxing, Pilates and yoga. Whether after a satisfying workout or a soothing spa session, the Vitality Café will be a convenient stop for healthy snacks, light meals and refreshing juices.

Royal Caribbean Takes Cruise Ship Entertainment to New Levels with Aquatheatre

Miami, June 18, 2008 – With its Broadway-style stage shows, the first and only ice show at sea, and lively parades leading down the center of its ships, Royal Caribbean International is known for remarkable performances in spectacular venues. In its latest innovation, the progressive cruise line introduces AquaTheater, an impressive outdoor venue at the stern of the
world’s largest ship, Oasis of the Seas. Located off the ship’s Boardwalk neighborhood, this amphitheater-style space will celebrate water with a full spectrum of activities and performances throughout the day and into the night with a backdrop of the ocean across the horizon. The first of its kind, AquaTheater will be a complete sensory experience that plays on the element of surprise, as the latest technology and design features amaze guests.

Created to offer two unique environments, guests will be able to swim in the theater’s magnificent kidney-shaped pool, relax on sun loungers located on tiered platforms surrounding the pool, and even participate in SCUBA lessons in the afternoon. At night, audience members witness the venue come alive with heart-pounding performances which feature dramatic acrobatics, synchronized swimming, water ballet, and high-diving performances, as well as fountain shows synchronized to music and lights.

AquaTheater Pool

The largest and deepest freshwater pool at sea will be 21.9 feet (6.6 meters) by 51.6 feet wide (15.7 meters), with a depth of 17.9 feet (5.4 meters)
Fitted with three stage machinery devices, the pool’s depth will rise or fall to meet the needs of each performance and for its various functions throughout the day
- Three custom lifts built into the pool will allow for intricate and multilevel performances
Underwater cameras will film performers and project images onto two giant
Barco^® LED screens that will flank the stage

Water Show Performances

Throughout the evenings, the AquaTheater pool will come alive with
beautiful choreographed fountain shows, amid hundreds of water nozzles –
some with capabilities of shooting water 65 feet (20 meters) high –
programmed to music and lights
A giant trampoline will be centered between two diving towers allowing
gymnasts and aerialists to flip and dismount into the pool
The diving tower will include two spring boards and two 10-meter high dive
platforms
A bridge connects the two high dive boards which can support an entire row

Miami, June 18, 2008 - Royal Caribbean International continues its tradition of cruise ship innovation with Oasis of the Seas, truly an architectural and nautical marvel with spectacular onboard elements and features never before seen on a cruise ship. Through its unique neighborhood concept, seven areas of the ship will provide vacationers with the opportunity to seek out relevant experiences based on their personal style, preference or mood. The following highlights three of the seven neighborhoods onboard Oasis of the Seas:

BOARDWALK

This breathtaking space was inspired by both the seaside piers that dot the coast of England and the nostalgic boardwalks of yesteryear such as Coney Island. Boardwalk will be an area for the entire family to enjoy together, whether young or just young at heart. The elements of the Boardwalk will be a dynamic way to engage families in classic fun with a colorful original carousel as well as eateries, retail outlets and carnival games. Signature elements of the Boardwalk will include:

AquaTheater, a remarkable outdoor venue at the stern of Oasis of the Seas with a backdrop of the ocean across the horizon. The amphitheater-style space will celebrate water with a full-spectrum of day and night options, including professional diving and theatrical performances. The first of its kind and the most technologically-advanced area of the ship, AquaTheater will be a complete sensory experience that plays on the element of surprise, as the latest technology and design features amaze audience members.
A one-of-a-kind and first-ever at sea carousel, the centerpiece of Boardwalk. Specially hand-crafted for Royal Caribbean from poplar wood, the full-sized, traditional carousel will take six to eight months to complete. It will feature 21 figures suspended from stainless steel poles, showcasing a time-honored menagerie of animals such as zebras, giraffes and lions, alongside a variety of hand-painted horses, including a princess horse and a crowned frog prince. The lead horse, customarily the fanciest horse of the carousel, will be adorned with Royal Caribbean logos, while a single chariot will serve as a stationary seat for two. The frame of the carousel will have a red and golden yellow facade, turn-of-the-century artwork scenery panels, and LED lights that twinkle during the day and night.
A zip line, a thrilling new feature suspended nine decks above Boardwalk. Adventurers will take in a birds-eye view of the action below, as the rider speeds diagonally across the open air atrium – a distance of more than 82 feet (25 meters).
Six AquaTheater Suites, 221 Boardwalk-view balcony staterooms, and eight Boardwalk-view window staterooms.

ROYAL PROMENADE

A natural evolution of the signature Royal Promenade featured on Voyager- and Freedom-class ships, the new design found on Oasis of the Seas will allow guests to have a physical connection with the neighborhood above – Central Park – as natural light cascades down from the sky. Giant glass-arched skylights, the Crystal Canopies, will form a sculptured roof that will look up into Central Park and the sky beyond.
The unique Rising Tide bar – the first moving bar at sea – will be an engineering feat that span three decks and allow cruisers to enjoy a
cocktail as they slowly descend from Central Park and arrive into the Royal Promenade.
Suspended above the Globe and Atlas Pub, an unfurling bridge on hinged hydraulics will create a spectacular, surprise element for guests.
Incorporated into the pub’s facade, a giant copper globe will “crack open” as part of its unique construction and extend over the Royal Promenade as a bridge platform. A focal point of the Royal Promenade, the bridge will be approximately 10 feet above and adjacent to the entertainment area for performances.
Towards the aft of the Royal Promenade, a mezzanine level will allow for sweeping views of the promenade and feature the cruise line’s Schooner Bar, Adventures with Royal Caribbean International, and the Diamond Club, an exclusive lounge for Crown & Anchor Society loyalty members.
Another first for the cruise line, the Royal Promenade will serve as the entry point for all guests embarking on Oasis of the Seas, rather than the traditional lower decks. A vast tree sculpture by international artist Larry Kirkland will serve as an impressive welcoming spot.

Loft Suites Redefine Cruising Accommodations on Oasis of the Seas

Miami, June 18, 2008 – To say that cruise ship accommodations have evolved since the first staterooms were designed would be an understatement. With Royal Caribbean International’s next endeavor, Oasis of the Seas, the world’s largest and most revolutionary cruise ship, the urban living concept takes to the high seas with the introduction of industry-first loft suites. The addition of the contemporary two-level suites will redefine cruise ship accommodations with vibrant, ocean-inspired colors in a sophisticated setting.

The lofts will be the highest accommodations at sea and will offer spectacular views of the ocean with floor to ceiling double-height windows to ensure the view will be enjoyed from every vantage point. Other features among these coveted 28 lofts will be a unique modern design dotted with abstract, modern art pieces, spacious living areas on the lower level with contemporary detailing, and a private balcony with sun chairs and stunning views to help guests unwind.

Each loft, which will measure 545 square feet (51 square meters) or larger when combined, and will be fitted in contemporary décor with a Caribbean influence. The impressive design will include an upper-level bedroom that overlooks the living area below and extended ocean views. Beds will be outfitted with white, luxurious duvets complemented by tropical blue and green accents that tie in to the loft’s natural surroundings. The lofts will feature LCD televisions, separate vanity areas, a guest bathroom downstairs and master bathroom upstairs featuring his and her shower heads, fog-free mirrors, and limestone mosaic tile accents.

Following is a breakdown of the various accommodation types and the latest ground-breaking features that will bring them to life:

Lofts

Royal Loft Suite: In addition to the 25 Crown Loft Suites onboard Oasis of the Seas, the exclusive Royal Loft Suite is available to accommodate groups of six. The Royal Loft Suite is the largest of all lofts onboard Oasis of the Seas. Spanning 1,524 sq. ft. (141 sq. m.), it will
feature its own Baby Grand piano, indoor and outdoor dining rooms that seat eight, private wet bar, a library and extended 843-square-foot (78.3-square-meter) balcony with its own LCD television, entertainment area and Jacuzzi. The Royal Loft Suite has the ability to connect to a Crown Loft Suite for additional room to accommodate a total of ten guests, providing 2,069 sq. ft. (192 sq. m.) of space.
Sky Loft Suite: The Sky Loft Suites are larger than the standard lofts and though they stand as singular units, these staterooms also will feature the option of connecting together to satisfy larger groups and families. These Sky Loft Suites, identified as Corner A (722 sq. ft./67 sq.m.) and Corner B (770 sq. ft./71 sq. m.) will feature more living room space, separate dining rooms that seat four, spacious balconies with sun loungers, and dining tables that seats four.
Crown Accessible Loft Suite: The Crown Accessible Loft will feature the same amenities as the standard Crown Loft Suites, but will measure slightly larger, at 737 sq. ft. (68 sq. m.), and will offer an elevator for the convenience of guests with special needs.

In addition to the loft suite accommodations, Oasis of the Seas will offer a variety of suites that appeal to guests looking for additional space and a variety of amenities that exceed the services offered at the stateroom level. While each suite varies in scope, these spaces will provide guests with private balconies, LCD televisions and more.

Suites

Royal Suite: This spacious suite – the only of its kind on Oasis of the Seas – sleeps four and will feature one bedroom, two baths, a separate living area with its own Baby Grand piano, plush seating, a full bar, and a 52” LCD television. Floor-to-ceiling glass windows and doors will lead to the suite’s large outdoor balcony with woven chaise lounges. The private master suite will offer an alternative sitting area with large windows facing the sea and a large jetted tub to help guests unwind after an action-packed day.
Presidential Family Suite: This family suite will be another one-of-a-kind accommodation onboard Oasis of the Seas. With room for 14, and a total of four bedrooms and four baths, this space will be similar to the Presidential Family Suite onboard Royal Caribbean’s Freedom-class ships. Floor-to-ceiling glass windows will face the ocean and a spacious balcony provides enough room for the entire group to enjoy the outdoor dining area, large LCD screen, and private jetted tub.
AquaTheater Suite: All six of the AquaTheater Suites available onboard Oasis of the Seas will overlook the Boardwalk and AquaTheater and will feature private wrap-around balconies, outdoor ocean-front dining areas for six, and an outdoor bar ideal for entertaining. These new family suites will accommodate up to eight guests and will have two bedrooms and two full baths.
Owner’s Suite: Each of the 10 owners suites will accommodate four guests, and are designed with one bedroom, living room and bath. Guests will be pampered with a private balcony, outdoor dining table for four and an interior sitting area with a convertible queen sleeper sofa for two.
Family Suite: Sleeping eight, Oasis of the Seas’ Family Suites with balcony will feature a master bedroom and bath and a guest room with private bath. All four suites also will offer a private balcony with outdoor dining and lounge area that will seat four.
Grand Suite: The Grand Suites with balconies will be the most abundant suite accommodations available on Oasis of the Seas. The 30 suites will feature one bedroom, full bath, and a separate living area outfitted in contemporary décor, with stonework used throughout the entry and bathrooms. Private balconies with woven chaise lounge chairs and a jetted tub for two are other amenities for suite guests.

From Riviera chic and Ibiza style to Miami trendy and Vegas flair, the nightclubs on NCL's new F3 ships will create never-before-seen experiences at sea and feature multiple uses for day or night, along with exclusive, adult-only venues.

Five of the ships' distinct hotspots were revealed at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas at the hotel's private Venus Pool to press, NCL's Partnership 2.0 Advisory Board, local travel partners and consumers flown in for the event. The five venues include the industry's first true Ice Bar; POSH Beach Club, a first of its kind beach club at sea that offers an exclusive, adults-only setting at the top of the ship; Halo, the Über Bar, a private bar and lounge in the ship-within-a-ship villa complex; Bliss Ultra Lounge, NCL's all-day entertainment and nightclub complex with four-lane bowling alley; and Spice H₂0, an adults-only aft pool deck experience. With these signature outlets, NCL's nightclub experience will rival even Vegas' energy and passion for nightlife.

F3 won't have massive void spaces and rooms only used for one thing. NCL's Ice Bar - chill out and chat up. Inspired by the original ice bars and ice hotels in Scandinavia and one of only 14 ice bars in the world, the cruise industry's first true ice bar is the ultimate chill. This frozen chamber of iced vodka is set in changing hues of blue, green and purple LED lighting that simulates the Northern Lights and creates a distinctive arctic atmosphere. The centerpiece is a giant ice cube that glows and changes colors as the hottest techno beats add to the energy of this unique nightlife attraction. In addition, NCL's Ice Bar features a bar, walls, tables, stools, glasses and life-size sculptures all made from ice. Located on deck seven, Ice Bar will accommodate 25 guests who will be given fur coats, gloves and hats to keep them warm, since the room's temperature will not rise above 17 degrees Fahrenheit - creating the ultimate chill. To enter, guests will pay a cover charge with a drink or drinks included.

POSH Beach Club - the best nightlife day or night. Adult guests who purchase a POSH pass for the day or the week will take a private glass elevator to enter this luxurious and exclusive outdoor entertainment complex styled with Mediterranean flare and combined with the sizzle of South Beach and the Riviera. During the day, guests can lounge on white-cushioned day beds and in private cabanas in a sun-kissed setting and cool off in the 35-foot long cascading waterfall while the POSH VIP Host and crew cater to every whim. June 11, 2008 - With Queen Mary 2's Transatlantic season underway, the accomplished actors and directors of London's Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) are engaged in a full programme of performances and workshops designed to engage and entertain the ship's guests. Highlights of this season's RADA programming schedule include abridged versions of Shakespeare's Richard III and Romeo & Juliet, Charles Dickens' Great Expectations, Dylan Thomas' Under Milk Wood and Noel Coward's Private Lives, as well as three acting workshops led by RADA's experienced troupe. Costa Breaks World Record for Longest Pizza Line

826 Freshly-Cooked Pizzas Stretch the Length of the Costa Classica

06/11/2008 - Costa Cruises made history recently in Sydney, Australia by breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest pizza line, as part of our 60th birthday celebration.

The world record was broken when 826 freshly-cooked pizzas stretching 221 meters were lined up on Norton Street in Sydney’s Italian quarter of Leichhardt. The line was equal to the length of the Costa Classica which will be based in the Asia Pacific from May 2009.

Thousands of spectators turned up to watch the feat, which started in the early hours of the morning and finished at 1 p.m.

As soon as the Guinness World Record adjudicator deemed the record broken, the pizzas were collected by the food rescue organization, OzHarvest, for delivery to local charities to feed the homeless and disadvantaged.

With Costa donating $10 for every meter of pizza and hundreds of locals participating in the charity event, more than $5,000 was raised for Variety, the children’s charity.

Led by Sydney chef Ashley Hughes from the restaurant Alio, 25 Sydney chefs tackled the pizza-making challenge, which used more than 500 kilograms of flour, 250 liters of tomato sauce and 350 kilograms of mozzarella cheese.

The record broke the previous pizza-line record, made only three weeks ago in Fort Pierce, Florida.

Costa Cruises Sales and Marketing Director (Pacific-Asia), Dario Rustico, said the cruise line was excited to support such a memorable event in Sydney.

“Italians know how to celebrate in style, and this record-breaking pizza line will no doubt be remembered for some time,” Mr. Rustico said.” I can think of no better way to celebrate Costa Cruises’ 60th birthday in Australia, than to work with the local community and charities on this event.”

MIAMI (June 6, 2008) – Carnival Cruise Lines’ 2,974-passenger Carnival Freedom, which was originally scheduled to operate six- and eight-day Caribbean cruises from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on a seasonal basis, will now operate the program year-round, following the conclusion of its 2008 Mediterranean program in October.

Carnival Freedom’s year-round schedule from Fort Lauderdale begins November 22, 2008, with six-day cruises departing Sundays and visiting Key West, Fla., George Town, Grand Cayman; and Ocho Rios, Jamaica, while eight-day voyages departing Saturdays alternate to the eastern and western Caribbean.

The new program kicks off September 13, 2009, and encompasses two different weeklong itineraries departing Sundays from the historic Maryland port.

Baltimore’s first year-round cruise program will feature a variety of interesting ports on two distinctly different seven-day itineraries. The new fuel supplement will apply to all new bookings effective June 12, 2008. The fuel supplement will not exceed $126 per person per voyage for the first and second passengers, and $56 per person per voyage for the third and fourth passengers in a stateroom.

For bookings made from April 21, 2008 to June 11, 2008, the current fuel supplement of $7 (USD) per person for the first two passengers, and $2 (USD) per person per day for the third and fourth passengers will apply.

We regret having to take this action, but fuel price increases have continued, and we now find it necessary to implement a modest increase in the supplement.

Her Majesty The Queen Bids Farewell to QE2

June 2, 2008 – In recognition of Cunard’s longest-serving ocean liner leaving the fleet in November, Her Majesty The Queen made her farewell visit to Queen Elizabeth 2 in Southampton today.

The Queen began by touring the vessel and meeting many crew members, some of whom have served on board since QE2 entered service in 1969 and others who went with the ship when she was requisitioned as a troop carrier in the Falklands Conflict. Later she attended a reception and lunch on board with 300 guests, including former Prime Minister Baroness Thatcher.

Both the newest and longest-serving female crewmembers played a role in the visit. While on the bridge, The Queen gave a signal to Cadet Jennifer Haynes, who joined QE2 in April 2008, to sound QE2’s whistle to salute Cunard’s current flagship Queen Mary 2, which was also in port today and was named by The Queen in January 2004. Queen Mary 2 responded by sounding her whistle in salute of Her Majesty’s visit. After disembarking, Her Majesty was presented with 55 red roses by QE2’s Executive Housekeeper Roz Price Evans who is the longest-serving female member of crew; the gesture marked 55 years to the day since The Queen’s Coronation.

The Queen also met nine QE2 Captains including Captain Peter Jackson who became Master of QE2 in 1973 and who took the ship to the Falklands in 1982.

Her Majesty The Queen has visited QE2 twice since the launch – on May 1, 1969, immediately prior the Maiden Voyage, and on July 27, 1990 to mark Cunard Line’s 150th anniversary.

“We are delighted and honoured that Her Majesty The Queen has chosen to visit QE2 to wish her farewell. Her Majesty has taken a close interest in the ship over the last forty years, having launched the ship, visited twice and reviewed the ship four times, including during the 50th Anniversary Commemoration of D Day. The 12.6 million people who took a cruise last year are already in on the secret. CLIA member lines have pioneered a unique concept in vacationing that offers incredible choice, flexibility and variety in all aspects of a shipboard experience, from itineraries and shore excursions to enrichment programs and dining. Entertainment is no exception. Of course, the scope and character of entertainment varies with each cruise brand and even with the size of a particular ship, which may carry 100 passengers or more than 3,000, but the acts receiving thunderous applause on many of the lines are nothing short of spectacular. Really Big Shows Carnival Cruise Lines’ “Big Easy” show, on the SuperLiner Carnival Freedom, takes audiences on a trip down the “Big Muddy” to New Orleans, with more than 40 songs in a multimedia production that mixes video, lighting and pyrotechnic effects with elaborate sets and costumes. Other shows on Carnival include “Legends,” in which passengers are invited to perform, completely costumed, as Elvis, Madonna, Cher or other famous singers.

Another new ship, Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Solstice, has teamed up with Poet Theatricals, producers of the first worldwide touring show of the Lido de Paris, to create three original productions, including “Solstice,” a “celestial” European-style theatrical circus featuring vocalists, physical comedy, breathtaking group acrobatic and aerial performances and other specialty acts. The ship also will feature a unique glass-blowing show developed with The Corning Museum of Glass.

Celebrating “Cruising Italian Style,” Costa Cruises offers a great variety of cosmopolitan entertainment on its fleet of 12 ships, sometimes including performers who went on to become famous Italian television stars. There are Broadway-style productions with stunning visual effects, participatory shows that bring passengers into the act, theme occasions often tied to the destination visited by the cruise ship, and plenty of dancing, including out under the stars.

Holland America Line puts the spotlight on fashion in a series of Broadway-inspired productions with 55 original costumes by the legendary Hollywood designer Bob Mackie. As part of its new Freestyle 2.0 initiative, Norwegian Cruise Line has introduced new entertainment on Norwegian Jade as it sails in Europe this year. It includes four new off-Broadway musicals, the popular show, “Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding,” and an expanded The Second City comedy show. The wide variety of entertainment, designed to offer more flexibility – evening shows are offered twice per cruise to allow guests more choice – also includes a classical dance production by award-winning choreographer Twyla Tharp.

Guests of Princess Cruises are treated to full-scale production shows such as “Destination Anywhere,” with 18 singers and dancers performing music of the Cole Porter era, and “Motor City,” featuring the sounds of Motown. Passengers also are invited to take part in “Ballroom Blitz” – an opportunity to learn a variety of ballroom dances during the cruise and then show off their moves in a series of evening competitions. The “Princess Peer Factor” pits teams against one another in such skills as pizza making, casino dealing and ice carving.

On Royal Caribbean International’s Explorer of the Seas guests can join top professional dancers and samba, cha-cha, waltz or swing themselves to fame in “Invitation to Dance,” created in conjunction with Louis van Amstel, the Emmy-nominated choreographer for the huge TV hit, “Dancing with the Stars” and that show’s two-time winner, Cheryl Burke. Four couples are chosen to compete for the title of best dancers at sea.

Something Completely Different If many of CLIA’s larger ships specialize in producing grand-sized entertainment, others are just as impressive for their more intimate offerings. John Lithgow, the award-winning actor, for example, will perform on Silversea Cruises’ Silver Whisper this summer. And, a classical music cruise on Crystal Cruises’ Crystal Symphony stars the opera superstar Fredericka von Stade, and internationally acclaimed master of the rare soprano saxophone, Anders Paulsson. Other headliners during the year on Crystal will include Tommy Tune, Marvin Hamlisch and Frankie Avalon. According to the line’s Website, Barbara Walters is slated to be a speaker on a summer cruise as well.

The nine-piece "Regent Signature Orchestra" performs aboard Seven Seas Mariner, Seven Seas Voyager, and Seven Seas Navigator, lending concert-quality musical support to production shows and breaking into smaller units for combo performances around the ships. Regent Seven Seas Cruises recently hosted a “Theatre at Sea” voyage on the Amazon River that featured such performers as Ed Asner, Tovah Feldshuh, Anne Jackson, Karen Mason, Patricia Neal, Lee Roy Reams and Eli Wallach. A “Cabaret Convention at Sea” featured many of the biggest names in Broadway cabaret, including Marilyn Maye, Billy Stritch, and Steve Ross. GENOA, ITALY, May 28, 2008 - Sleek and streamlined, the new steel hull destined to become the ultra-luxury cruising yacht Seabourn Odyssey arrived at T.Mariotti's quay in Genoa, Italy, on May 27. The hull, built in San Giorgio di Nogaro in the Gulf of Venice, was towed southward through the Adriatic, around the heel and up the coast of Italy to the T.Mariotti shipyard, where blocks of the yacht's superstructure have been under construction while the hull was being completed. (May 25, 2008) – The Disney Magic cruise ship returned to the Port of Los Angeles this morning, making it easier than ever for guests residing in Southern California to experience Disney Cruise Line’s highly popular seven-night cruises to the Mexican Riviera. The ship is on the West Coast for a limited engagement, sailing just 12 cruises this summer, but staterooms are available for select voyages throughout the season. MIAMI, May 23, 2008 - An oasis is commonly defined as a fertile area in an arid region or a place of refuge, relief, or pleasant contrast. Today, Royal Caribbean International adds another use of the term, defining it as the official name for the cruise line's newest and most awe-inspiring class of cruise ships, until now referred to by the code name "Project Genesis".

The name Oasis of the Seas was selected from more than 91,000 entries in Royal Caribbean's "Name that Ship" contest, which the cruise line launched on January 18 in partnership with USA TODAY. Entrants were invited to submit two names ending in "of the Seas" that best encapsulate the universe of experiences a Royal Caribbean cruise provides guests. The contest marks the first time members of the general public, outside of the cruise industry, have been given the opportunity to name a cruise ship.

The winning combination of names, Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas, was submitted by George Weiser, of Livonia, Michigan. Weiser's well-chosen names scored the highest among all contest entries considered by a panel of judges, and earned him the honor of naming not only the world's next largest and most innovative cruise ships, but the entire class of the new ships, the Oasis-class. Weiser is joined by Jennifer Conley, of Robertsville, Missouri, who suggested Mystique of the Seas and also Allure of the Seas. Conley is also a winner in the naming contest for earning the second-highest score.

The "Name that Ship" contest was judged by a panel of industry experts including Lauren Teton, founding partner of Name One!, which specializes in finding unique names for products and business entities; John Maxtone-Graham, maritime historian, lecturer and author of numerous books, including the latest, "Normandie: France's Legendary Art Deco Ocean Liner"; and Albert Mehrabian, Ph.D. Professor Emeritus of Psychology at UCLA and author of more than 14 books, including "Baby Name Report Card: Beneficial and Harmful Baby Names."

"Taking into account the remarkable sea-going destination Oasis of the Seas will be, the name selection evokes an appropriate feeling of verdant comfort and luxury," said John Maxtone-Graham, maritime historian. When launched in late 2009, Oasis of the Seas will be the largest and most revolutionary cruise ship in the world. Multiple Destinations, Comfort and Convenience, Inclusive Pricing and Payment in Dollars All Add Up to Exceptional Value

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (May 20, 2008) - There are as many ways to see Europe as there are reasons to visit. There’s backpacking from country to country, staying in youth hostels and eating standing-up. There’s going to one city and staying in one hotel for the entire trip. And, there are villas and other accommodations available, which are as varied and different depending on country location and preferences for self catering or full-service. But, for travelers, including families, who want to sample one of the world’s greatest travel destinations, including visiting multiple cities, often in different countries, it would be hard to find a better way to do it, or a better value, than on a cruise.

The reasons are numerous. To begin with, there is the inclusive nature of cruise pricing: for one price the traveler receives accommodations, all meals, entertainment, shipboard recreation and enrichment activities, and travel from city to city, port to port, country to country. There is the convenience of packing and unpacking only once, no matter how many places are visited, and of having a “home away from home” for the duration of the trip. There are no plane or train schedules to meet or hotel reservations to make. There is an English speaking staff to assist in making all sightseeing arrangements. And, there is the reassurance of traveling in a secure environment. All of these factors add up to exceptional value. But there is more.

Typically, North Americans pay for their cruise vacations in advance, in US dollars. Given the current foreign exchange rate – roughly one Euro for every $1.50 – Europe has become more expensive and payment in dollars provides a buffer for travelers against further fluctuations. In addition, 2008 cruise prices were calculated when the dollar was stronger; this means the cruise passenger already has a price advantage compared to current prices in Europe.

While it is difficult to make exact comparisons between cruises and land-based vacations in Europe because of the many variables possible, the value of a cruise vacation is far greater than a simple price tag, and a few examples of average costs are instructive.

In July 2008, CLIA member lines will offer cruises all over Europe. There is an eight-day voyage from Genoa to London calling on Monaco, Barcelona, Lisbon and Le Havre, the port of Paris, with a starting price of $949 per person.* Another seven-day cruise of Scandinavia, roundtrip from London, and featuring Amsterdam, Oslo, Copenhagen and Helsingborg, Sweden, is priced starting at $1034. A 12-day itinerary from Venice to Rome featuring 11 destinations, including Ravenna, Split, Kotor, Corfu, Valleta, Messina, Sorrento, Corsica, Monte Carlo and Portofino, starts at $1,799.

Of course, there are cruises at higher price points as well. At the luxury end of the market, there is a seven-day voyage between Rome and Venice calling at Sorrento, Taormina, Corfu, Kotor and Dubrovnik, priced at $4995 per person. Typically, luxury cruise lines include complimentary wines and spirits as well as suite accommodations in the cruise price.

How do these cruises compare to land-based vacations in Europe? In Venice, a popular cruise destination and, in price, comparable to many major European tourist destinations, a typical three-star hotel in July is approximately $200 per night, double occupancy**. A typical four-star property is $450. One of the best known luxury hotels is $750 midweek, almost $2000 on weekends. According to Frommer’s Travel Guide of Italy, the minimum price for a prix fixe dinner in Venice is approximately $30 per person, without wine. For travelers who want to visit cities other than Venice, the Eurail Select Pass Saver, allowing unlimited travel by train for eight days to three bordering countries, costs $618 per person or $1320 for a family of three. And, throughout Europe, a VAT, or Value Added Tax, on most purchases can be as high as 20 percent.

Using these average prices, an eight-day land-based vacation visiting three countries, including seven nights’ accommodations double occupancy in a three-star hotel, transportation and two meals per person per day could total $3116 per couple. As described above, an eight-day cruise on a premium cruise line visiting five countries can be found at approximately $2000 per couple.

Celebrity Cruises to Celebrate a PERFECT 10 with First Antarctica Sailings

Miami - (May 13, 2008 ) - When Celebrity Cruises sails its tenth consecutive season in South America next year, the line will celebrate by offering its first-ever Antarctica sailings. The 2,050-guest Celebrity Infinity will sail a total of eight South America sailings in late 2009 and early 2010, calling at 26 ports in 13 countries. Sales for these cruises opened today.

Celebrity Infinity's South America sailings will depart from Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Valparaiso, Chile; and Buenos Aires, Argentina, the latter being the home port for both 14-night Antarctica sailings. One of these will depart on January 31, 2010, and the other will set sail on February 14. Infant Policy

Infants sailing on a cruise must be at least 6 months old as of the first day of the cruise/cruisetour. However, for Transatlantic, Transpacific, Hawaii, select South American cruises/cruisetours and other selected cruises/cruisetours, the infant (as of the first day of the cruise/cruisetour) must be at least 12 months old.

As of April 22, 2008, the list of cruises to which the 12 month minimum age requirement applies (in addition to all

Celebrity Cruises gives 'Spring Cleaning' new meaning

Reflecting the company’s continuing commitment to Freestyle Cruising, the wide variety of entertainment offerings were designed to offer guests more flexibility during Norwegian Jade’s port-intensive European itineraries. The new entertainment includes four new off-Broadway musicals, the legendary show phenomenon Tony n' Tina's Wedding, an expanded The Second City comedy show, and a classical dance production by award-winning choreographer Twyla Tharp. In addition, Norwegian Jade is the first NCL ship to feature Freestyle 2.0 enhancements, including all new menus in the restaurants, upgraded bedding and enhanced on-board activities programming, including NCL “U” enrichment classes, themed parties, sports programming and enhanced youth programs.

The nighttime production shows are offered twice per cruise, but only one performance per evening, in contrast to the traditional offering of one production show being offered twice per night. This provides guests the option of catching a show later in the cruise if they miss the first performance. In addition, most evenings there is a second show performed that includes acrobatics, action comedy and magic. To enhance the performance, all shows are performed live with the accompaniment of the Norwegian Jade orchestra.

• Tony ‘n Tina’s Wedding: The hottest off-Broadway show and one of the longest running, Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding is a hilarious interactive show that satirizes a traditional Italian-American wedding with audience members as "invited guests" to the nuptials of the Vitale and Nunzio families, portrayed by a improvisational cast of 25. Celebrity Cruises Announces 2009/2010 Caribbean Sailings!

Celebrity Equinox, the newest vessel to the Celebrity fleet, will sail alternating 10-night and
11-night Ultimate Caribbean voyages beginning November 23, 2009 through April 9, 2010. Celebrity Equinox will depart for 10-night voyages on Fridays and 11-night voyages on Mondays, round-trip from Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Celebrity Constellation will alternate long Caribbean sailings with Panama Canal sailings from November, 2009 through May, 2010. All Panama Canal voyages will be opened for sale in mid-May, 2008. The Caribbean voyages will all sail round-trip form Miami, Florida. Celebrity Constellation will sail a 13-night Ultimate Caribbean voyage on November 9, 2009. On December 20, 2009 she will sail a special 14-night Exotic Southern Caribbean Holiday voyage. Celebrity Constellation will also sail two 14-night Exotic Southern Caribbean voyages, the first departing on January 31, 2010 and the last on February 14, 2010.

Celebrity Mercury is slated for alternating 10-night and 11-night Southern Caribbean voyages between November 6, 2009 and March 26, 2010. The 10-night voyages will depart on Fridays and the 11-night will depart on Mondays, round-trip from San Juan, Puerto Rico. Celebrity Mercury will sail a special 15-night Southern Caribbean Holiday voyage departing on December 18, 2009. Immediately following, Celebrity Mercury will depart on January 2, 2010 for a special 9-night Southern Caribbean voyage, to get back to the 10- and 11-night pattern.

Celebrity Solstice will sail two different alternating 7-night Eastern Caribbean itineraries between December 13, 2009 and April 11, 2010. Celebrity Solstice will depart on Sundays and will sail round-trip from Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Celebrity Summit will sail 7-night Southern Caribbean voyages between December 12, 2009 and April 10, 2010. Celebrity Summit will depart on Saturdays and will sail round-trip from San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Cunard Queens Rendezvous in Southampton for First and Last Time

April 22, 2008 -- In yet another historic Cunard occasion, the Line's three Queens - Queen Mary 2, QE2 and Queen Victoria - met yesterday in their homeport of Southampton for the first and last time. QE2 and Queen Victoria arrived after completing milestone World Cruises: the final such voyage for the iconic "grande dame" QE2, set to leave Cunard's service in November, and the first World Cruise for Queen Victoria.

Queen Mary 2 arrived after concluding her first Transatlantic Crossing of the season and will transport the remaining World Cruisers from both QE2 and Queen Victoria back to New York, arriving April 28.

The three ships are the only passenger vessels in the world with Southampton on their sterns.

The Gardens of Central Park

MIAMI, April 15, 2008 – Central Park, the first of seven exceptional neighborhoods to be unveiled on Royal Caribbean International’s Project Genesis, creates a variety of experiences that beckon visitors to explore and learn about flora from around the world:

A series of columns interlaced with vines is just one of the welcoming entry points into Central Park, elegantly landscaped with tropical foliage, including seasonal flowers, shrubs and trees.

Drifts of Calla Lilies among Giant Elephant Ears, Red Ginger, Rabbit Foot Ferns, Banana Croton, Gold Dust Dracaena, Butterfly Lily, and Zebra Calathea are some of the plant life guests will discover.
Impressive ‘Green Walls’ spanning 25 feet and four stories high will host flowering vines and a variety of ferns such as Red & White Mandevilla, Twinspur ‘Red Ace’, Verbena and Silver Pothos. The park will also have changing displays of accent plants, such as Birds of Paradise and various Orchids (Phalaenopsis, Cymbidium, Colmanara Wildcat).
Trees, some eventually reaching more than two-and-a-half decks high, include Cherry of the Rio Grande, Fern Pine, Amstel King Ficus and Golden Bamboo. Fragrant additions include Orange Jasmine and Allspice (scents of cinnamon and clove drift from leaves and bark).

Drawing on the concept of surprise and intrigue, garden spaces throughout Central Park will sprout from charming pathways:

The Pergola Garden is a unique interpretive plant garden featuring vegetation from a host of Caribbean locales where guests can see shade grown Coffee plants and budding Pineapple plants, as well as learn about the origin of spices such as cinnamon and nutmeg.

The Sculpture Garden integrates artwork from international artists and unique plantings, while Sweet Olive trees frame a cozy area to sit and enjoy a view of the Park.
The Chess Garden is located next to a large Cuban Laurel tree and framed with Painted Bamboo where guests can challenge each other to a game of chess or checkers with large-scale pieces. Or for a more intimate experience, personal game tables are found off the main path.

The middle pathway transports guests over a bridge spanning a ‘river of plants’ and past a series of special gardens, restaurants and cafés, as well as boutique shops to the central square lined with colorful Kumquat and lacey Black Olive trees.
The Park’s horticulturalist will teach guests about the Central Park gardens, general gardening techniques, and provide lessons on the distinctive and unusual ecology of Caribbean plants.

Irrigation and drainage systems will be incorporated, along with micro climate control techniques.
The landscape architects and architects responsible for the design of the Central Park gardens are The Waterfield Design Group of Winchester, Mass. and Wilson Butler Associates of Boston.
Atkins Limited of Surrey, England served as the lead design architects of Central Park.

When she launches in late 2009, Project Genesis will be the largest and most revolutionary cruise ship in the world. An architectural marvel at sea, she will span 16 decks, encompass 220,000 GRT, carry 5,400 guests, and feature 2,700 staterooms. The ship will sail from her home port in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. In 2010, she will be joined by a sister ship.
